Happy Thursday! I wanted to share a recent high school senior portrait session I had with this truly radiant young woman. We had a wonderful time in an urban park, which offered everything from fields of goldenrods, to tall grasses, to a nearby alley with some beautiful brickwork.
I photographed her sister three years ago (already!), and I was so honored that they asked me back again this year. Thank you so much!
I had an absolutely splendid time with this family near their home in Southwest Minneapolis. I don’t do many family sessions with older children, but this family wanted to get some portraits taken together before their oldest moved away. It was such a blast! Mom said that her two kids were best of friends, and I could tell immediately that their connection is deep. They spent the entire session laughing, playing around, teasing each other… While I was off photographing their parents, they sat down in the green grass and made clover chains.
Such a beautiful family… thank you so much for allowing me the pleasure of spending a lovely evening with you all.

I haven’t seen beauty this deep and pure for a long time. WOW- she is just lovely!! What a great color for her in that coat too!!
And here we have the lovely Claire. Aren’t her dreads to die for? Absolutely love them. So much texture, color, fun art, LOVE!!! Claire is definitely an urban girl, so we headed to downtown Minneapolis for her senior session. She’s a songwriter, and I’m absolutely sure that she’s headed for a fantastic career writing music. Can’t wait to hear what you come up with, girl! Here are some of my favorites from the session…

Sometimes a senior photo session will unfold as we go, and will end up somewhere completely unexpected. This was one of those sessions – we knew we wanted to visit some of the places near Lee’s home, places where he had spent a lot of time hanging out, but didn’t have much of a plan beyond that. We started off on foot and caught some fun shots near the creek, then headed by car to a nearby lake, where he wanted to get some shots of his favorite dock.
As we drove, he strummed away on his ukelele from the back seat, and I knew we had to use it for the session. So he brought his uke out on the dock and played beautiful melodies into the warm summer evening. His buddy had tagged along for the ride, so of course I brought him out for a little impromptu jam session. Little did he know he would be out in front of the camera too. HA!
We found a handcrafted fishing pole that someone had left on the dock, so of course we had to use that in the session as well. Lee tells me he’s quite the fisherman. Fisher-person. Fisher-dude.
And of course he couldn’t resist climbing his favorite tree at the end of the session…

I knew that tree on sight before I noticed the band shell. My favorite lake in the world. Great photos, Gwen. I like how this set captures his personality. He’ll treasure these someday–you’ve truly captured a moment of time.
