This session was filled with firsts for me. I am usually contacted by moms, wanting to schedule photos of their kids because they have hit some sort of milestone (a birthday, new sibling, or holiday photos, most often). Every once in a while, Dad will be the one to contact me, but for the most part, Moms assume the task of hiring a photographer.

In this case, it was the son. CJ contacted me way back in December about wanting to get some portraits done of him and his sister Justine, as a gift for his mom. He had found my site through a google search, and was looking for some portraits that were less traditional, less posed, and more about capturing them having fun together as siblings before they grew into adults. CJ told me that Justine is 23 years old, and in a wheelchair, another first for me to photograph. They were looking for some outdoor photos, so we scheduled our session for June. If you live here in Minnesota, you know what incredibly insane weather we’ve been having recently. Our initial session date was fraught with thunderstorms, so we rescheduled. So was the second. And the third. (I’m used to a little bit of rescheduling with inclement weather, but four times??? That was a first.) But on the fourth date we scheduled for their session, it was gorgeous. Absolutely beautiful summer weather.

We met in the park, they came with balloons and bubbles, both activities that Justine enjoys. Justine is an incredibly happy, positive young woman, quick to make friends, and she filled the park with her joy and laughter. She lights up when CJ is near, it’s clear how much she adores him.
