preparing for your session

Newborn session at your home:

  • Home sessions are designed to capture your family in your natural environment, and are primarily lifestyle sessions. Less posed, and more natural.
  • Please make sure you start feeding your baby an hour before the session, and feed until he/she is definitely full
  • Warm the house to 78 degrees or warmer
  • Dress your baby in just a loose diaper (to avoid red marks) and a cozy, swaddled blanket
  • Parents and siblings should wear simple and comfortable clothing in a neutral color palette. Please no bold prints.
  • If you have any handmade quilts or any other special items you wish to include in your portraits, please gather them for the session.
  • Allow 2 hours for your newborn session.

Newborn session at the studio:

  • Please feed your baby before you get in the car, and feed until he/she is definitely full. Allow plenty of time for a nice, long feed – we want to make sure baby is very full!
  • You do not need to bring any blankets or other props - I have everything we need at the studio, and will have some blankets and wraps picked out for your session when you arrive.
  • If you have any handmade quilts or any other special items you wish to include in your portraits, please bring them along.
  • Parents and siblings should wear simple and comfortable clothing in a neutral color palette. Please no bold prints.
  • Allow 2-3 hours for your newborn session – much of this time you can relax, so bring along a snack, a magazine, book, or plan on taking a much-needed nap!
